We celebrate Malaysia’s 50th year of independence on 31st August 2007 with a reflection on our state.
The country has undoubtedly achieved much and produced many glorious sons, but the concern is still to maintain harmony, stability and just distribution of wealth to her multi racial, multi religious and multi cultural populace.
As the country moves forward to realise the objectives of Wawasan 2020, it can be observed that the economic divide between the rich and the poor seems to be bigger and bigger.
Although we do not have the statistics to support this observation, but a simple glance will tell that for the thousands of people who are able to buy houses priced over or almost RM1 million, there are hundreds of thousands who cannot afford to buy a low cost house and many more who are still trying to survive daily to make ends meet.
Although food is in abundance and relatively cheap in Malaysia, in our search for the 30 orphans who we now care for at Rumah Aman, we came across poor families who ate only once a day and there were others who went without food for a day or two. For a country so prosperous like Malaysia, this must come as a surprise to many.
No, this is not the failure of the government or the people or we can say, yes, but in part. The bigger contributor to this state of things is the success of Western capitalism.
While most of us are looking forward to `upgrade’ our lives and living conditions and the government trying to enhance its profile by sending Malaysians to the moon and outer space there are still others who are trying to get out from the vicious cycle of poverty.
We at Rumah Aman being a non-profit organisation will be in continuous need for help whether in kind or in finance. Presently we are looking after 30 children from the poor, orphans or not and when we have excess, we try to help their families too.
There have also been occasions where we had plenty of food and household goods that enable us to share with other needy orphanages and caring homes and we will do this continuously when the rizq permits us, insha – Allah.
We have a dream, that is to set up a Rumah Aman in all the 14 states of Malaysia but we are also weary that we need to run the one we have at present, efficiently and systematically but, to do that, we will need help, lots of them.
We take this opportunity to thank everybody who had assisted us in kind and financially in making Rumah Aman what it is today and we look forward to your continuous support. May Allah s.w.t. reward you and bless you all and increase your wealth even more.
Rumah Aman has been operating for the last 27 months and during that period we have proven to the donors that we are transparent in our accounts, we have kept the place clean, we have focus much on education, we have provided good facilities and we have created a safe and trusting environment, moreover we are committed to give the best of care to the children.
We do this for the sake of the children and for the pleasure of Allah, and we invite you to do the same.
Our Merdeka wish is that someone will be kind and generous enough to make an awqaf so that it can continuously finance the operations of Rumah Aman in caring for the orphans and the poor, the needy and the helpless.
