5 boys from Rumah Aman set for the UPSR this year with 3 boys scoring Grade A in 4 papers and Grade B in 1 paper (4A's, 1B's), 1 boy scored 1A and 4B's and another boy scored 3B's and 2C's.

Well done boys, we are very proud of you.

On the occasion of this blessed eid let us remember and reflect on the Farewell Sermon (Khutbah Wida') of the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings Upon Him) which he delivered on the 9th day of Dhul-Hijjah 10 A.H in the 'Uranah Valley of Mount Arafat.

After praising and thanking Allah the Prophet (PBUH) said:

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore, listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.

Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas Ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib (the deceased prophet's uncle) shall henceforth be waived.

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right, then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, perform your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadhan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black any superiority over white - except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Quran and my example, the Sunnah (Hadith), and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly.

Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people."

The full day event, organised by Bata Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society, was meant to be a fun-filled way for the children to learn how to care and love the environment. Together with children from another orphanage, the boys were each assigned a 'foster' parent and divided into 4 houses namely Red, Blue, Yellow and Green. There were games, a jungle hike (during which the children must pick up any rubbish they see along the way) and the exciting Canopy Walkway. There were lots goodies, including a brand new pair of the famous Bata school shoes, to take home too.

The event, "OSK Hari Raya Open House - Celebrating the Children", was hosted by those nice people at OSK Investment Bank Berhad for children from 3 orphanages including Rumah Aman. The program included a magic show, animal show, lots of food and drink and a tour of the zoo.

The children received 'duit raya' and goodie bags from Mr U Chen Hock (CEO of OSK Investment Bank Berhad) and En. Yazit. Rumah Aman also received a generous contribution from host.

Our friends in Blackburn is a case in point. Since 2008, through the tireless efforts of Sister Sofia Esa and Sister Latifa Umar, the ladies from Blackburn have contributed a total of GBP53,000 (GBP20,000 in 2008 and GBP33,000 in 2009) raised during charity dinners that were organised. Besides the charity functions, contributions from our friends in the U.K have been deposited into an account with Habibsons Bank Ltd and periodically transferred to Malaysia.

In recognition of their generosity, we are giving them the honour of naming the prayer hall (or 'surau' in Malay) at Rumah Aman 2. So come on ladies, put on your thinking caps and submit your entries by posting comments to this post.
